The New Music Mixtape – 18th May

The New Music Mixtape – 18th May

Hey there! The New Music Mixtape is back with a look at the best music May 2016 has given us so far. It’s a bit mental that we’re dangerously close to the mid point of the year and I’ve been thinking a bunch about how this year has shaped up musically.

What I find interesting is the lack of one sound that is captivating people’s listening habits. I was certain that a tropical modern reggae sound (see WSTRN) would be all over the place and despite hits from RiRi and Drizzy, that kind of hasn’t happened. Instead we’ve had a trap anthem about Pandas and super pop from Zara Larsson and most recently Justin Timberlake rule the airwaves. And now Calvin has laid waste to the charts with a sunsetter with Rihanna. So things are kind of all over the place, which is exciting. If you want to keep up with the best records of the year, in my opinion, then make sure you my Spotify playlist (over at hastie121) a follow which I update every month with only the best records from everything.

The reason I write today however is to bring you the latest volume of The New Music Mixtape. This edition features returns from James Blake, Yumi Zouma and Local Natives whilst debuting new artists such as Arizona, Exes and Owen Rabbit. And there’s something really out there from a viral rapper Lil Yachty which you’ll either love or hate.

I hope you enjoy the show, thanks for listening!

The New Music Mixtape – Best Of April

The New Music Mixtape – Best Of April

April crept past us pretty quickly but with it came a barrage of great new music. Over the month I managed to log a total of 142 tracks!

We were gifted some fantastic albums. Beyonce’s surprise Lemonade was her greatest story to date, and ‘Hold Up’ especially is going to soundtrack our Summer. For Drake fans however, this month was all about Views and boy did the album deliver. I’m sure I’ll be speaking about songs like ‘Feel No Ways’ and ‘Controlla’ for months to come.

This month I have made a radio show I’m really happy with due to the amount of absolute bangers in it. In the second hour I begin to count down my Top 10 for April 2016.
These are the tracks you really can’t do without so make sure you give it a listen, or check out the YouTube playlist above (although some songs aren’t yet on YouTube).

For the lazy or busy of you, here is my Top 10 for April 2016:

10. Elohim – Sensations
9. Broods – Free
8. AlunaGeorge – I Remember
7. Moose Blood – Honey
6. Post Malone – Go Flex
5. Her’s – Dorothy
4. White Lung – Below
3. Jesiah – Babylon
2. Puppy – Entombed
1. Kid Canaveral – First We Take Dumbarton

Thank you very much for reading/listening and I’ll be back soon with more ace tunes.
